ભૂતપૂર્વ ભારતના પસંદગીકાર સરનદીપસિંહે હાર્દિક પંડ્યાને ટેસ્ટ ટીમમાં નજરઅંદાજ કરવાના વર્તમાન સમિતિના નિર્ણયને સમર્થન આપતાં કહ્યું હતું કે, જો આ ઓલરાઉન્ડર બોલિંગમાં ફાળો ન આપે તો તે ટૂંકી ફોર્મેટ ટીમમાં સ્થાન મેળવવા યોગ્ય નથી.
હાર્દિકે 2019 માં કમરની સર્જરી કરી હતી. ત્યારથી તે નિયમિત બોલિંગ કરી રહ્યો નથી અને ટીમને તેની સર્વાંગી કુશળતાનો લાભ મળી રહ્યો નથી.ઈંગ્લેન્ડ પ્રવાસ માટેની ટીમમાં પ્રતિભાશાળી પૃથ્વી શોની ગેરહાજરી પર તેણે આશ્ચર્ય વ્યક્ત કર્યું હતું. પૂર્વ ભારતીય સ્પિનર સરનદીપે પીટીઆઈને જણાવ્યું હતું કે, ટેસ્ટ માટે હાર્દિકની અવગણના કરવાનો પસંદગીકારોનો નિર્ણય યોગ્ય છે.

સરનદીપે ઇંગ્લેન્ડ પ્રવાસ માટે ચાર સ્ટેન્ડબાય ખેલાડીઓની પસંદગી અંગે પણ સવાલ ઉઠાવ્યા હતા. અભિમન્યુ ઇસ્વરન, અવવેશ ખાન, પસીદ કૃષ્ણ અને અર્જન નાગવાસવાલા સ્ટેન્ડબાય ખેલાડીઓ તરીકે ભારતીય ટીમમાં જોડાશે.
